My new S2000 broke down today at 771 miles. I have no clue as to the problem, but symptoms are as follows:

Shift into first gear to move the car, slow release the clutch, push on the pedel, RPM goes to 8000... car is not even moving! It is as though you are still in neutral. Car is moving VERY slowly on straight paths.. going up hill.. car stops.

Anyone have any clue? I don't think that I burnt my clutch, because I can't shift if I did. I think it has to do something with the plates.

Anyways, there goes my trust in Honda reliability.

So I think I'll be going for a Mercedes Benz SLK 32 AMG in the near future. Probably trade this S2000 in after its fixed for the SLK. Anyone have any experience with the SLK, or Mercedes Benz for that matter? How reliable are they and how fast can they get the parts?

I've heard from the dealer that SLKs are more of a "women's" car than a guy's car. Anyone can confirm this?

I'm just wondering why you bought the S if you can afford an SLK32 AMG? Personally, I don't think of the SLK as a woman's car and certainly not the AMG version.
Maybe after you get it fixed, you'll change your tune.

 

It's your clutch. Do you know how to drive a stick?

Sounds like a clutch issue in this case, but if its a big enough issue to give up on Honda reliability.... I sympathize with your frustration, but parts should be regularly stocked at least regionally, and even the worst dealers should be able to determine the problem very quickly and it should be covered under warranty. Dont give up yet, I am sure getting back on the road will change you mind. Good luck.

Just a note...at 771 miles? So you just finished breaking in the car and instead you "broke" it? j/k I do hope you get it fixed soon.

Actually, after thinking about it...it may just not be getting into 1st gear at all. can you get into reverse or 2nd? If so, then it may be the shift gate for 1st gear.

Jeez, hang in their buddy. Strange things do happen, I guess, but don't give up the ship yet.

Soooo many owners on this board have had good things happen when American Honda Motors gets wind of something amiss... Give them a jingle if your dealer gives you any hassle at all.

Sorry to hear about this. I agree... Smoking the clutch under 800mi, that's GOTTA be a record!
