Default My car is only worth $22k?

I took my baby to Car Max today to have it appraised (they buy cars), and I was given $22k even for it. It was rather disappointing to say the least.

I wonder if I can get a better trade in deal up in the bay area?

How many miles do you have on the car so far ? That sounds pretty low .

Why are you selling (or considering it)?

I hate Car Max. I wanted to buy a car from them once, but they messed up and the car (that was in the display lot) was sold (this is of course a completely different Car Max).

So I got my car (Integra) elsewhere. This was over two years ago. A few months ago, I wanted to know how much my car was worth and brought it there. I didn't like the attitude of the person appraising my car (he is supposedly the manager for that branch), and he gave me a pretty crappy appraisal (he claimed that the leather in my car was after market, even though I'm pretty sure it's stock, I don't think he had a clue).

From now on I only go to Car Max for appraisal to see how much I can get rid of my car for in a worst case scenario.

Trade in deals suck Richard. You can certainly get $3k-$4k more on the private market if you can stomach the time involved. Provided you're in good condition and have reasonable mileage, I'd expect to be able to get at least 75% of original value ($25k) for a 2 year old, relatively rare car.

Mingster, I have bought and sold several cars through an independent dealer in Irvine. If you can do without a car for a couple of weeks, he will put it in his inventory, advertise it and complete the sale for a reasonable fee. His inventory is mostly high end stuff like benz, porsche, ferrari, etc. and if he has enough space will even store it inside. Since he can do financing it is much easier for him to get full retail and give you a grand or two less. Let me know if you want more info.
