My 05 Rio s2000 with Comptech Exhaust
Spent my Friday installing the exhaust after picking it up from UPS...previous owner did an awesome job of packing it up and so it arrived in perfect condition - looks BRAND NEW!
I was immediately impressed with the welds and fully polished stainless steel design of this exhaust. (my previous 01 S2000 had a HKS Hiper exhaust and the pipes were no comparison in terms of quality) The exhaust comes in 3 pieces and uses all the OEM hanger points. It also has a total of 4 bolts that are pre-threaded to go into the section where the 3 pipes are joined. One thing I noticed is that it's a very unique interlocking design so that it assures the dual cans are perfectly aligned. The washers have recessed holes so as you tighten the bolts it pulls itself into perfect alignment. As you can see in the pics, the tips and muffler cans line up almost perfect as a result! Total time for me was about 2 hours taking my time.
The Comptech is NOT the lightest exhaust out there but that is not my main focus. I wanted something that is throaty but liveable as a daily driver and hoped this fit the bill.
When I first fired up the exhaust it was actually quite loud and I was like uh oh....but then realized once you get the car out of the garage and the engine warmed up the tone drops quite a bit. Taking it out for a spin, the exhaust sounded really nice in almost all the rpm's but when VTEC hits, it's pure music. At certain RPM's it's louder but once you settle into a 6th gear highway cruising speed, the tone almost disappears. If you drop your speed to under 60mph in 6th and press the throttle there is a noticeable drone but nothing a simple downshift wouldn't fix.
I found that top down is actually more quiet for some reason.
When I finish dynamatting the trunk and underchassis later as part of my stereo project I will report back on if the noise has decreased.
For now just going to enjoy this beautiful exhaust. The view from behind with the polished cans and Comptech embossed tips is awesome. The tips protrued just enough to give it presense but nothing ricey. Can't wait to get my headers on next..........

Thanks guys! my g/f drove it over the weekend and she loves to keep it in the VTEC range....hahaha
I swear she drives faster in this car than her Beetle, not sure if it's the new exhaust tone
My car is an AP2 (2005) so everything you see is stock on the rear.
I have not measured the tips but looks like 4" to me.
