I find it hard to believe that so many people say they have reached 145 or more MPH in their S2K. Especially more than 155mph.
I've had two S2K's, and I've tried to get a top speed out of them (on flat - or close to flat - roads), and I've only had them at 135-137mph...of course, this is with the top down, but I find it hard to believe that even with the top up and windows up, that the car would go much beyond 140mph. I can only see the S2K getting beyond 145mph if you are going downhill with the top up and windows up...no passengers, and not on a full tank of gas.

140? Yes. I see that as possible. If I had a nice, smooth, flat road, I could hit 140mph as well (been close on not so smooth and flat roads). However, speeds over 145-150mph seem unrealistic unless the top is up and you're going downhill.
Once you hit about 130mph in the S2K, it pulls very, very slowly from that point on, and in 6th gear at 135mph, you're at 7500-8000rpms.

when my S had stock gearing, i hit 156 then slowed down (top up and less than half tank of gas). I am pretty sure it could have done a lil more. The car felt as though it was still pushing
now with my 4.77 FD, i have hit the rev limiter in 6th at 142. I just did it to see how high it went. i don't see a need for our cars to go over 150. I use mine for daily driving and road courses so I went with 4.77. Gave up some top end for better acceleration

I had one of these when i was living in Germany.
It's a Peugeot 407 with a 2.0L 4cyl. I regularly had it around 220kph (135mph) on the Autobahn's. You can drive safely at those speeds, especially when a lot of other people are driving just as fast, faster, or the occasional one that makes you look down at the speedo to see if you accidentally slowed down. I find it surprising that many people here don't think the car is capable of topping out the tach in 6th. I never had the oppurtunity to drive my S2000 over there but it is smaller, more aerodynamic, and much more powerful than that Peugoet is. I've also never taken my S2000 to those speeds but mostly because the roads around me don't give me the oppurtunity. The roads are what's to blame, not the car.
