Not sure how his original description of a grind is now notchy. Words mean things - if he says it is notchy when cold, then I agree it is SOP for this car.

124Spider,

I have had my 04 since last October. I now have 3000 miles on the car. Mine DOES grind. There seem to be lots of people on this board that assume you don't know how to shift or that you don't know the difference between a GRIND and notchiness when you comment about this on the 04. I can assure you that mine DOES GRIND.

Mine grinds when it is cold if you shift at anything more than a snails pace (faster than probably a 2 second shift). I mentioned this to the dealer last week when I went in for an oil change, but the car was warm by then. It shifts PERFECTLY when the car is warm, no matter how quickly you shift.

So, YES some of the 04's do grind. Whether you can get the dealer to repair the problem, or whether it is even possible to repair, I don't know.

Good luck!

Mark

Well Dr, I'm glad to hear that your '04 DOES GRIND!! . Now, in response to your chastising people for attempting to offer alternate explanations to the original poster I say take it easy. He said, "It is not audible, but I can feel a bit of grind." and went on to describe perfectly the catchy synchros when cold. We do not know his level of experience but the description pointed very much to NON GRIND. Typically, if you are grinding gears at all, you will hear it happening.
