Just got it to close from a foot up. Instead of just letting it drop, I pushed down with force by sort of snapping my wrists. It's fine now. Thanks for the replies.

I don't think anything binding or rusted. In fact, I think his car is perfectly normal. He's just not used to closing this hood. Since he mentioned that he finally got it to close from 1 foot up, I'm assuming he was trying to drop it from less than this before this attempt. 1 foot is nothing. I used to drop mine from 1.5 to 2 feet up. The ower's manual says to "drop" it but does it way from how high? I don't recall, but that means to drop it from as high as it takes (within reason of course). I guess if you have to get up on a step ladder, then maybe the latch could use a bit of adjustment.
