Mugen News from Autosport Show In England
#1
I was at the Autosports Show in B'Ham England and spent an hour talking to the guys who had worked on the S2000 engine F20C. Now his English wasn't great my Japanese much worse, so this is some of what I gleaned.
Mugen displayed with Dome and had an F20C and gearbox and a 2.2 litre version without.
1, New Dry sump system for F20C.
This reduced the height of the engine to less than 600mm (he showed me the plans/diagrams) it has a purpose engineered pan, and a pump system mounted on the front left of the engine as you look at it. This had 2 scavenge pumps. There were two oil tower possibilities, one built in between the gearbox and engine looked good.
2. The Mugen 2.2 engine version of the F20c, dry sumped, longer crank, standard F20C rods, new pistons, mugen ECU,
I believe approx 265BHP, this engine is going into a one make series of single seat F3 type cars.
3. Fully programmable Mugen ECU, and stainless steel exhaust
manifold (header to the Yanks)
4. Titanium con rods and value gear - sorry not from Mugen but from a company who supply CART and F1, now that would be
a good group buy, The rods were $600 each. Match them with the Mugen crank and there is your power.
5. Alcon have been doing work on brakes on an S2000 for someone in Japan ( they supply the rally teams)
So the dream is a S2000 with a 2.2 litre engine, titanium rods, and value gear, fully mapped by a Mugen ECU
Also found a guy who does camshafts dev work for a large Germany company in F1, who would do some work on a S2K cam
Hope this was fun
