Default Mugen Hardtop

Hi
I want to know where is of the two hardtop the most light
In the kingmotorsport.com there are two kind of hardtops
One in carbon fiber the name is 69000-XGS-K0S0 and the price is $4999 (expensive).
and another hardtop in frp (fiberglass) the name is 69000-XGS-K1S0 and the price is $2600
Yesterday i sent to kingmotorsport an e-mail where i want to say which
of theese two hardtop is the best for the weight.
This is the first answer that kingmotorsports gives to me

Hello,

Thank you for your email. The K0S0 Hardtop is constructed from carbon fiber
it weighs 34 lbs. The K1S0 Hardtop is constructed from fiberglass and weighs
approx. 10-15 lbs. more than the carbon fiber version. Both use all OEM
latches and seal for precise fitment and weather tight sealing.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance in the future.

Best Regards,

But in the second mail they anwer me in a different kind

Hello,

The fiberglass version of the Mugen hardtop is 10-15 lbs. heavier than the
carbon fiber version. The carbon fiber version is more expense because
carbon fiber is VERY expensive to manufacture. It is also important to note
that this hardtop was designed in the wind tunnel and it offers a huge
aerodynamic advantage over the stock hardtop.

Which is the best wheight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Please answer me

Ciao a tutti

Both emails answered your question. The carbon fibre top is 34 lbs and is 10-15lbs lighter than the fiberglass top. I know that both are lighter than the Honda hardtop. So, go with model #69000-XGS-K0S0 if you want the lightest top available for your S2000. Though expensive, words cannot explain how nice that top really is.

Actually, I think the OEM aluminum hardtop weighs 44 lb.

Is the Mugen fiberglass really available?

Mugen Carbon Fiber - 34 pounds - $5,000
Mugen Fiberglass - 44-49 pounds - $2,600
OEM Aluminum - 44 pounds - $3,000

Remember, the back window of the Mugen is not glass like the OEM Hardtop it is Lexan (plastic) without a defrost unit.

Design is a personal thing, features are facts.

And remember, the OEM Aluminum hardtop can often be had for $2500-$2700.

I find it curious that the fiberglass top with a plastic rear window weighs the same or more than the OEM aluminum top with a glass rear window.

Not to get things all wound up here but I can see why the fiberglass would weigh as much if not more than the aluminum. I'm sure the Lexan back window was chosen to save weight and my experience with fiberglass is that it can be very, very heavy. I have a fiberglass truck cap on a short bed small size pickup. Now I know this is a bad example because there is so much glass in the truck cap and obviously the cap is bigger than the S2000 roof, but that darn thing weighs almost 300 pounds!!!

Yeah...frankly, I think there's little weight difference between the OEM aluminum shell and the CF itself. The large glass windshield in the OEM hardtop can easily make up that 10 ib. difference all by itself.

Still, I dig the Mugen's styling...

Next month, huh? Maybe I can play Santa to myself...
