MPG highway v. "around town"
Like the title says, if you're at 5.5K rpms in 6th gear with a stock AP1 are you supposed to be getting better gas mileage than you do at "legal" highway speeds? I got 28 mpg going 5 over and 32 mpg at average ~5.5K in 6th (you do the conversion math )
Around town the gas mileage on this car sucks for what I'm used to from Hondas....I bearly get 23 mpg around town.

I've actually noticed that when I hold the r's @ about 4k in 6th, roughly 70ish, I get better mileage than doing 65 which puts the r's @ around 3.5k. I've never gotten below 26 mpg but my daily commute is 110 miles of rural and state hwy's so it averages higher than if I were to run a tank in the city. I average 28 mpg with peaks just over 30, I probably vtec daily and do 100+mph 2-3 times a week.

This phenomenon (of getting best gas mileage just below the VTEC switch in top gear) I have proven true in my 2001 Honda Prelude. It gets 33 mpg at 4,800 rpms (VTEC engages at 5,200 rpms) but only gets 30 mpg at 3,500-4,000 rpms in top gear.
I recall from the discussion that ensued that we came up with the theory that the engine might be running leaner just before VTEC rpms and was in a "power band" so to speak where going up a hill was no lug on the engine at all since torque was higher at 4,800 rpms than it was at 3,700 rpms or whatever on the H22A4 engine.
I would not be surprised if the F20C is doing the same thing!
stay drier in wet weather, and get better gas mileage by cruising faster!
