I have an alpine 9815. One of the best things I have done to the car.

Alpine 9807 WMA and Mp3......rocks the house all night long.....

You can fit a whoooooole lot of WMA's on a 700mb cd. (changers just became obsolete.

I have a Kenwood Excelon 8 series and love it. A few weeks ago I downloaded a ton of songs for my trip to San Fran and listened to that cd almost the whole way. About 8 hours from one disk and I could have fit more.

For those of you who replaced your head units, are you still able to control the stereo using the driver side audio controls? Is there something I should look for in a new head unit to be able to keep using those controls?

~yes I am still able to control the stereo using the driver side audio controls...
for me I use the remote that came w/ my head unit w/ my right hand so my left is always on the wheel.....the only thing that works on the left dash controls for me is the mute I use it incase I have an incoming cell call I can mute it fast if needed.

I would go with something that Kenwood makes. They have a system called the Music Keg. It is a cartidge that you can download MP3s and WMAs to. Take the "keg" out of the docking station on your computer, plug it up to the drive in the car and you have like 40 gigs worth of MP3s.

I would recommend AGAINST the Keg.

An iPod is much more flexible and a much better use of your cash. With a Keg you have to buy proprietary cartridges that are 10GB in size and only work with your Keg in your car. And that means you HAVE to get a Kenwood HU...what happens if a better HU comes out and it's not Kenwood...then yous pent all that jack on the keg stuff when you want a new HU.

Where an iPod can go anywhere you go and is far more useful. And works with a wide array of HU's out there.

Personally, I used to think MP3 playback was the best, buty now it's all about the Satellite Radio. I can hear my MP3's anytime at home. But with SAT I get to hear new music all the time and can go buy or download it later to have in my own personal collection.

Sorry.......the KEG is crap. By crap, as everyone already knows, I mean not worth a dime. No one need 40 gigs on demand. 700mb cd with wma's is probably 500 songs. You really need 500 songs at a time???? I second the IPOD notion.

I would get an Alpine wma/mp3 deck and an IPOD if you really need more.

I was thinking of hardwiring an iPod waybackwhen, but then decided on this setup.
