moving in to college
#11
Some colleges don't let freshman take cars to college. I think the logic is that the new students need to make the transition to college life. My son survived his first year at UCDavis just fine without a car.
The second year he moved off campus. One of his roommates had a car so they could get groceries. When I bought my S2000, and his roommate's car died, I gave him my just paid off accord. Five months later and the accord is definitely a beater now! If you want your S2000 to turn into a beater take it to college. The rich kids have their new beater BMW's or beater Mercedes. The middle class kids have their 5 year old beater acuras and the poor kids have their 10 year old beater corollas.
If you live on campus, just get a bike. If you live off campus find a cheap older car. LEAVE YOUR S2000 AT HOME.
You will be so busy anyway you won't have much time for driving.

yea dude, i found a 92 civic ex for 1900 on autotrader..it is the best mod i have ever done to the s2000! absoutly perfect for everyday driving and going to school. You really ought to look into finding a beater

Within a few months of taking my car to college back in 87, somebody had walked across the hood (leaving dents from the outside and inside), and I had 3-4 door dings. People just don't care about cars in that environment. You need to drive a beater to school, or else prepare to have your S2K become a beater.

If you plan on parking your car at your school's parking lot (for students dorming), expect your car to eventually get: keyed, egged, broken into, vandilized, etc. If you're commuting to school and park at the school's parking lot, that's fine, but leaving it there 24/7 bascially is asking for trouble. Even if you live off campus in a luxury apartment that has a gated parking lot underground, you can still expect it to get vandilized, etc (if a good portion of the residents are college students). Happened to me and almost everyone i konw that dorms on campus and parks their car in the lots.
