I've waited until today to remove the airbox housing lid. This morning to see what the fuss was about I did just that.

AMAZING, below 6,000 rpms it sounds brilliant, especially on wide throttle openings, lovely deep roar, but when she was fully warmed, and I extended to 9,000+rpm, the noise change at 6,000rpm was fantastic, even deeper, melodious even, but most of all, FANTASTIC.

Question Though: Do I leave just the clips dangling, or can they be removed?

Everyone without airbox / filter MODS should try this at least once!!

The first time I heard an S2000 was at a garage outside Coventry on the A45. I had just finished filling up my car when the ALMIGHTY noise came echoing up the dual carriageway. I looked over to see this silver thing, roof down, going VERY fast by me in full 9k VTEC, shifting as he went past the revs dropped and I was treated to the next gears full attack from the exhaust end. Wonderful!

Sounded like an Integra R but even more so!

Paul,
How do I remove the airbox? Is it a 5 minute job?
Regards,
S.

Undo the 5-6 clips that hold the TOP of the airbox on and remove it. Leave everythings else as is.

As mentioned before many many times, you will lose power by doing so.

But it does sound good.

When I did it my car wouldn't start. I'm taking it to Honda today. I think I have a scuffed 4th cylinder like Jason Saini's situation. We'll see.

It's nice to do every once in a while for the sound, but performance loss is substantial, and I would think it would be even more dramatic in the summertime.

I have a friend that I sold a Civic si to, and upon getting the car he instantly replaced the airbox with a CAI. OMG! What a difference in sound, the car just came alive. What I wouldn't do for a simple, no power loss, solution for the Stook. Couple it with a great sounding exhaust like the HKS Hyper and the thing would just sound murderous. If only the Honda engineers hadn't been so damn smart, maybe we would have a decent selection of CAI's that would actually MAKE a few ponies as well as give a great sound. Oh well, tisk tisk. Someday...
