Default Mods for under $1,000?

I've been reading the forum a bit because when I get my tax return, I'm going to get a new mod for my 02. From what I've read, it seems that the 4.57 gears are the best mod (best meaning most performance increase) for under $1,000. Am I correct or do I need to keep reading?

I'm looking for best most performance increase for under $1,000 (after installation). Along with this I'll be getting a new front lip since I broke mine when I slid on an ice patch and jumped a curb...

Yeah, gears are definitely the most noticable performance mod you can do under a grand.

Remove your Exhaust Resonator - $ 30.00.

No performance gain, but you loose about 5 - 10lbs, and it sounds rather good.

Now, do I need to get the reinforced diff housing if I get the 4.57 gears? Ricks2k.com says it should be "Seriously considered" but is that because he's just trying to coin an extra $399?

reinforced diff housing is mostly for people who drive the car real hard as in launching and whatnot. If you never plan on launching your car the diff is not necessary.I emailed rick about this some time ago

P.S. also if you know how to launch your car you shouldn't need to upgrade diff either.ask wisconsins2k I believe hes launched his car a shitload of times with no problems to his car.
