Missing A Shift At 9000 RPM's...
What a nightmare it must be to miss a shift at 9000 RPM's. Has any one out there had this happen? I've got almost 6000 miles on the S2k without going the limit yet.

Yeah, the rev limiter will save you if you screw up an upshift. Unfortunately, the rev limiter can't save you from a mechanical overrev which is what happens on a missed downshift into too low of a gear.

I've got 4500 miles on the car, 3 months old, and I've only been to 8500rpm once, maybe 2x. I don't think it's a big deal. all the mechanicals are moving in exactly the same places, just 500 rpm slower than redline.
I do believe this motor needs to be "exercised"-- that is, brought into VTEC regularly, but I don't think hitting 9000rpm is necessary for proper engine maintenance. maybe for proper spirited driving, but I don't think the engine "needs" to hit 9000rpm regularly. that's kinda silly, IMHO.
I am open to correction on this, but my logic tells me what I just said above.
