You can swap the ECU with another from the same year and hope they dont notice the VIN changed..
Makes things more complicated...have to get the ecu and key programmed to swap.

Great advices on this thread. I had that happen on my my07. Probably the only time i wished for an analog tach. You should be fine. The engine speed is slowed down drastically with the drag that comes with downshifting of that nature. MY guess is you've gone to 9k or just over after everything was said and done which is fine, esp since you only let it happen for a brief second. I suggest you get your retainers inspected. Like someone said above, you can have an invisible hairline crack that can work itself up to a disaster later. I wouldnt worry too much if i were you but do be alert for symptoms.

my overrev yesterday wasnt as bad, but im still curious. ap1 down shifted 4th to 3rd at 90 mph. redlined for a tick, then put it back in 4th..

probably just like the civic si's, which record overrevs. The K motor heads seem to be able to take a MAJOR beating though. i read an article that honda designed them for a 13k overrev and be able to survive without destroying the engine. obviously this wouldn't be a 100% thing but to know it was designed for that is impressive.

Having an older car has it's perks, especially in the tunability department

With the F22C, the retainers do not stretch, so for over rev damage to take place, the valves have to come into contact with the pistons. This bends the valves and the engine damage is immediately obvious, due to the loss of compression and misfire codes (CEL).

F20C is a different beast and can have stretched retainers due to an over rev. No immediate sign of damage, but then the engine failes "for no reason" at a later time.

OP appears to have an AP2 with an F22C so if he damaged the engine with an over rev, it would be obvious to him. No CEL, no misfire, then no bent valves.

BTW, you can try to fool the dealer any way you like, but the imprint of the valve heads in the tops of the pistons is going to be impossible to hide.

just had a compression test done and all cylinder are at 220+ psi. Also no overrev was read on the ecu. Lucky me!

Can you pick up an overrev on a OBDII code reader?

mmmmm , in my previous life I was a K20 freak and I recall seeing a couple of K20s that were overreved due to a misshift that did not take it to well at all. One in particular shit its piston out onto the street and it looked like a burnt baked potato still wrapped in the foil.

Not saying that they are not insanely strong with misshifts, because some did make it, but I read stories about just as many that didn't. They did switch valve springs in latter models (I think 03+) and that made them a bit stronger.
