Misshifted and possibly overrev'd
Last night I was driving on the highway about to make a pass through two cars. I went from 6th gear at approx 4k rpm to 2nd gear with a flashing redline. Once I let off the clutch and saw it hit redline I depressed the clutch right away. It had to of been no longer than 1 or 2 seconds but felt like a lifetime. Ive been researching it all day and have had no symptoms of bent retainers, no CEL, or rough idle. I truly dont think i went more than 9k but im paranoid about my cars. Ive already scheduled a service at the dealer for a compression test and a leak down test. Im just looking for more opinions from other s2ki'ers. Just to clarify I own a MY'05 AP2 with 36k miles. I also have the extended 100k bumper to bumper warrenty.
Thanks in advance.

Hmm... If you have that warranty, I wouldn't let anyone at honda know that you over-revved.
You can rent a compression tester from AutoZone and test it yourself for free btw. How much is that going to run you?
You're probably fine. What speed were you going when you downshifted? 4k is about 75 or 77, right?

70mph in 2nd is about 10k rpm...75mph (which is pretty close to 4k in 6th) is nearly 11k rpm. Those aren't happy numbers.
I would suggest a close inspection of the retainers. If you don't see any cracks, start saving to replace them. You can have fractures that you can't see with the eye that will get worse over time.

I would say by the sounds of it my guess would be that you should be ok. You got back on the clutch pretty quick and when you do something like that it does not instantly rev the engine to the corresponding rpm in the said gear. There is some clutch slip (especailly with the AP2 delay valve), depending on how fast you are going tire slip, and just general give throughout the drive train, all before the rpms hit the engine.

Yes, I was thinking that but didn't know how to explain it properly. It probably felt like a much longer time than it was. Plus the fact that engine drag would slow it down pretty immediately.
If you've got the dough, might as well check it out though.

There was no chirp of the tires so im assuming I possibly caught it before the rpms got too high but im going to get it checked out anyways just to be safe. Like everybody says in other threads, id rather spend a few hundred than a few thousand later down the road. I do appreciate everybodies advice.
