Maximum reasonable tow capacity of the S2000?

I've had a Chase Race hitch before. The weight is supported by the bolts of the rear bumper. I don't think I'd trust the bolts from shearing off in case of a blown trailer tire or hitting some debris (or another car).

Wow it can tow stuff? Lol, my owners manual says that it shouldn't exceed the weight of 400lbs in the car total. So If I'm a gigantic 200 lbs and my wife is 200lbs, I can't put anything in my trunk or the universe may implode. With such little in terms of weight, I figured it couldn't tow anything! Learn something new every day!

My owners manual clearly states "Your vehicle is not designed to tow a trailer; Attempting to do so can void your warranty."
Strange, huh?
OP, I wouldn't go as far as to try to tow 1200lbs, but anywhere around 500lbs should be fine. The S doesn't weigh enough to be able to properly slow the trailer down in an emergency situation, it's just not worth the risk.

1200 pounds may be pushing it but i thing around 800 you should be ok. If you are light on the gas and clutch i think the differential should be able to handle it. Like you already said the brakes can handle it as long as you dont ride them too hard....

Good point Ckit. I am thinking maybe I should NOT attempt this at all. Something random and unforseen could be devastating.
I really think the car could tow this weight, but I just don't want the risk of destroying a motorcycle. I am guessing insurance would give me a hard time IF something were to happen, which would not be cool. I don't want to give them any reason to deny a claim on a potentially wrecked car AND motorcycle.
For others interested in towing though, the tire trailer setup is really no problem at all for the S2000. I guess I am just not willing to risk towing something of value with such a small car, especially since it sounds like nobody else is attempting to tow this kind of weight (excluding the guy with the 3000 lb boat, but he only has to go a mile or two on a flat road to the boat ramp).

i have put over 20,000 miles on my CR using the chase hitch pulling a 950lb trailer. zero issues. none. nada. only thing i have to do on the offseason is repaint the hitch.
when i built the trailer, i spent a lot of time on the scales getting weight distrbution correct and getting the proper tongue weight. also, i upgraded every bolt to 10.9 grade bolts, with extra length, loctited.
