Default maintenance

i had the 7500 mile service done at the dealership while i changed the differential fluid also. im nearly reaching 14000 miles and every time i start up the car, i see the maintenence required sign flash which means sooner or later its going to be constantly on soon. why is this coming up at 14k? do i need to go to the dealership to get it off also?

Its indicating that you need an oil change. If you've been changing the oil regularly reset the light and move on with your day.

That light comes on at a preset distance after the last reset. Unless you are actually following that schedule religiously, just reset it and ignore it. Go by your own schedule for what needs to be done.

The reset procedure is in the owners manual.

You had to change differential fluid at 7500 mile? Is that normal?

That shouldn't be normal unless something is wrong or the dealer is trying to milk him. Diff fluid can be changed every 20k I think. Anyway, I know it's alot more than 7500 miles.

Anyone who has been around this site for a while, knows that it is wise to dump that first fluid within the first few thousand miles. The same goes for after a final drive gear change. This is one area which some of us feel that Honda has made a terrible oversight. Of course, it's your car and if something should break, I'm sure Honda will cover your diff. (Or will they? )

Did my diff fluid at 6,200 miles and it looked like gray metal-flake paint. I'm going to do it every year. It is cheap insurance.

Wow, I wasn't aware of this. Guess I should look into changing it, I'm already at 10,000 miles!
