That sounds like most Dallas cops. Me and a friend were in his Festiva (old with bondo and primer paint and all) going 75 in the fast lane and a cop was beside us looking at us like "What the hell are you doing in the fast lane!". He then signaled for us to get over, so we did LOL these guys are cool sometimes

We have this nice twisty road nearby - it's not too long and it runs behind a major office park. So a couple weeks after I have the car I'm tearing down this road doing about 60+ (speed limit is 35, I think). I come around the last curve which is a 90-degree right turn. What do you know, smokey is standing in the middle of the road right up ahead. He's on foot actually there to block off traffic to the office park for a running event. He waves me over, and procedes too tell me "if I'd have had my radar out, I'd have been able to prove you were doing a lot more than 35". Nowk, knowing that you should never incriminate yourself by admitting that you were speeding, I let out an "uh-huh". That was it. His next and last words to me were "drive carefully". I'm thinking, you gotta be kidding me - I'm tearing down this little road and all he has to say is "drive carefully". I thought I was!

I forgot to ask you what gear you downshifted into. Going from 80 to 55, I figure you either used 3rd or 4th. If ou used 3rd, you definitely would've been in VTEC.

by the way, you didnt answer the question... would you have braked or downshifted in that situation?

Wanabe, you are right, always break for the cops. A few years back I was showing off on PCH and hooked a U at the light and stood on it. At around 110 I waved to my friends and looked in the rear view mirror and saw a motorcycle cop pulling out with red and blue lights on. I used the e-break and down shifted to a reasonable speed. He never knew I was going fast and wrote me for an illegal U-turn. They had just posted the sign!
Stay alert.

Well, since the cop was in front of you, I would've braked.

dont really remember, but probably was in 4th at 100+, backed off to 80 then downshifted... most likely was to 3rd - yes it was into high revs... i remember thinking that he could hear the high revs- fortunately he either couldnt hear, or didnt care since i was at a reasonable speed- 55- for the road.

The only times I downshift are to speed up! I know it's silly, but If I'm cruising at 90 and suddenly my valentine gives laser warning, I'm gunna step on it. This happened a few weeks ago and I got off 3 miles later at the next exit after reaching 140. The cruiser was no where in sight at that point and I slowed it down and meandered home.
Other than that, I use my brakes, they work fast and will keep the numbers low when radar actually picks me up.
Disclaimer: This was at 1:00 in the morning with almost no traffic.
