I know I will be scolded for bringing this to the main forum, but no one is replying on the tire rack forum.

Can you put a lower profile tire on the stock rim? If so, what size? I don't want something that will look ridiculous, just a bit lower.

Thanks!

[yea, I did a search. Someone answer and I'll delete the post!]

The answer is yes but you will get a tire smaller in diameter.
205/50/16
225/45/16
This combo will work but only if you lower the car to close the gap created
by tires .8 inches smaller in diameter. The positive is a quicker car due to your
gear ratio jumping a bit north to around :29

i have the same question in the tire forum...

i just dropped in a new set of tires and wheels, and noticed the combined wheel & tire diameter has shrunk. is this ok? what side effects? from what i can tell, if you reduce 10mm on the tire, then you should add an inch on the wheel. just want to be sure i dont throw off odometer and speedo too much...

hey russ - i noticed you are running the rota slipstreams and toyo proxes.... that is exactly what i ran on my miata (tho 15"). since im selling it, i moved that setup onto my wifes 03 civic si (which had terrible tires).

here are the wheel/tire sizes:

from: P195/60VR15.0
to: P195/50VR15.0

Doh! I don't think I'm willing to lower the car for the smaller profile.

Thanks for the info.

Guys, those "extra" miles on your odometer will add up QUICK. Don't do it.

Im lookin at 245/45 for the rear, and slightly taller for the front.

well, i did my 63 mile commute today with my 10mm shorter tires... i was concerned that the odometer would read like 100 miles or something...

what did it read? 63 miles.

looks like a 10mm difference would be nominal in mileage...
