On both of my S2K's no bars left and the pump icon lit generally meant I had 2.5-2.7 gals left in the tank (I can only put in around 10.3-6 gals) ., meaning 50-60 miles, your actual mileage may vary

this post crops up about monthly so if you're really curious do a search and average 2000 or so responses to get a true fleet average.

You have 46 miles after the last bar goes out until you run out of gas. (Highway/city driving)

And don't ask me how I know this

well its pretty easy to (roughly) measure

fill your car when you the light comes on

listed capacity - fill = reserve

for me thats OVER 2 gallons left which gives me 60 miles but i take er no more than 30 miles over the light

Thanks for all the input.

I keep track of the mileage after each fill up. Right now, I'm sitting at 282 miles... I'm going to make a gas run later tonight and see how close I was.

Got all scared first time this happened to me and I was out in the middle of nowhere at night...

Now it doesn't even freak me out... Last night, had approx. 3 gallons (tank is 14.5 yes?) when the last bar went out.

25 miles for sure.
50 probably.
75 unlikely.

I've driven 53 miles with zero bars. I still only filled up 12.9? gal I think.
