Low on Gas, How Far Can I Go?
Came home late last night and as I pulled into the driveway, The last bar on the gas gauge went out. Never been this low before. Since I live in a rural area, curious if I can make it 6 miles (hilly terrain) to a gas station. Or, do I need to fill up a can.

I'm poor and can't pay for gas, so I always run the tank to fumes.
After the gas light comes on, I've went as far as 60miles. So firgure you have alittle over 2 gallons of fuel left from that point.
You should have no problems.

You'll make it the 6 miles no problem, have some fun and use VTEC too
It is bad to continuously run your tank down that low though, the fuel pump will run a lot hotter and wear out quicker.

Just because the last fuel bar goes out, doesn't mean much. It depends on where the car was and how you were driving it that determines what's going on. If you have 3 bars of gas left, you can accelerate through a couple of gears rapidly and make them all go out. To be more certain of how many "bars" you really have left, have the car on a level surface and idle there for a few minutes so the float and sensor and ECU can re-calculate a new reading. Even at level, just as the last light goes out, you could have 1 to 2 gallons left in the tank.

For instance, on the track, if you are at four bars (AP1) you are on fumes. This is because the little bit of gas left is still sloshing high enough for the gauge to read four bars.
On the other hand, if you have been driving sedately on level ground, four bars is enough to go maybe up to 100 miles (probably less).
I've parked the car on a hill and seen the gauge be at zero bars, but had it go back up to two bars as I drove a while on flat road.
The mileage you have driven is a more reliable indicator than the guage. Keep track of how many miles you usually get per tank (for me about 210-220 in normal use, 280+ on long freeway trips, and about 90 on the track).

haha ok this is my first tiem experiencing this. I had only 1 bar of gas left then after putting ten dollars in. It stayed at 1 car and gas light still on. I tried turning the car off for a minute or 2 and turning it back on and it was still there. After driving about 4-6 miles the bars slowly came back. Whats the deal with that?
