Loud metallic clanging in Reverse
I have never had any of the tranny probs I have read about on the board. I do not drive the car hard IMO.
I have observed the breakin religiously and said all my prayers.
This morning after starting her up I went to put into reverse and heard the worst metallic clang I could imagine. I had the clutch all the way down.
After a second I tried again without any more trouble. It was loud enough that my wife upstairs came down to ask what had happened.
It sounded like a tool box with wrenches hitting the floor.
Any ideas. Btw this would this be a early 2001 model delivery 12/6/00?

Did you just wash your car prior to parking it for the night? I'd bet your brake pads were touching the brake rotors and locked slightly when they dried. This happens to me quite often. I'm trying to coast to a stop without using the brakes when I park my car after a wash.
I think your okay if this doesn't happen every time you put it in reverse.

Yeah, if you had just washed your car or got your brakes wet, the clang you heard was probably the brakes popping off the rotors. I remember the first time I heard this, I thought I miss-shifted also. Not a pretty sound, but no harm done.

That could be it for sure. I had washed her and it started to rain right after the first towel dry, so I had to pull her in the garage wetter than usual and dry off inside.
That is not the way I like to do this. I guess that would explain it.
Really didnt "feel" like a tranny prob. Hope you guys are right

No doubt about it that's the problem which isn't really a problem. I have washed my car, then put it in the garage to dry it. Later covered it and didn't drive it for at least the next day. Start to back out and CLANG!!!!!!

After hearing the clang a few times, I actually pushed it out of the garage once. I still heard the clang, but it wasn't as loud, since I can't push the car out as fast as I can back it out in reverse.
stbrnd - there's nothing to worry about. What you heard was pretty normal and doesn't damage anything.
