For those of you who race your car on the track, did you ever have a chance to race your S2000 against Elise (Sport-190) with 189 hp.

I am just wondering how our S2000 would perform against one of these beautiful machines in term of lap times. I only wish they were legal for street use in US!

Thanks

Wow, that's a good question. I love the Elise, yet I have never seen one at any track I have done. Hmmm, never actually thought of that. I would expect that the Elise would smoke the S2000 in ET. It's a much lighter and quicker car...the perfect track car, especially on tracks that are less wide open.

I'm very interested in finding out people's experiences with them, but I predict that they will handily beat the S2000 on the race track. After all, it's where they were made to run...! And hell yea, I wish those little monsters were street legal!

Here's a picture of one that visit every now and then...

The guys in the UK have raced against them and done very well, but I'm not sure many of those Elise models have that much HP.

Hey guys-

Lotus Elise at GingerMan- 1.39.xx laptimes, race version with rollcage and R compound tires.

So... the Elise is faster, but not by much.

I have an Elise 111S with some mods, but is not faster than the S2000;the 190 yes,but ....hey is a race car.
The Elise is a really great little car,but
the engine is not at the same level with the rest of the car.
Did you saw the new Elise? Will be available in the beginning only with the base engine (120 HP),so less than the last 111S.But very different shape.

Hi, all.

You can get a road legal Elise for $60,000. Nick, I remember Mark is going to get one, if I am not mistaken. But, all of you guys have to come here to get it. I think for that price our S2K is more attractive. There is only one left the dealer is selling. They have imported six total.

Nick, that's interesting about the Elise's times at Gingerman. I thought for sure they would walk the S2000. But wow, it's right in there...!

I knew they were maybe a little underpowered, but I thought the lightweight would have somewhat compensated for that.

Anyway, very interesting...!

When the Elise was launched I made my way out to Trivett Classic and took a test drive. Superlative purpose built car built to Colin Chapman's creed (what is it? "Add lightest and simplicate" or something).

Unfortunately I realised very quickly that you'd also have to have a second car for anything other than a joy ride.

Then along came the S2000. Very similar performance, without sacrificing the bare creature comforts (roof, carpet, ABS, some storage space) at about the same price is Aus.

So on the track the Elise may win by a small margin, but at great expense in functionality. And I think if I put all my stereo gear in the Elise it would be a slug.

Hi, Greg. That particular Elise is owned by a person who is from Chicago area. I have met him this summer in Gingerman during Shelby track day. The R compound on that car is Yoko A038 which is a harder compound compare with A032R. I remember he is eating time away from Mustand Cobra on the track during the afternoon when the track started to dry up. Pretty neat little car. One thing I noticed, the idle on race version Elise was pretty rough. The engine can never hold idle at certain RPM. It always bounces up and down in a range. I think that is kind of annoying. But again, it is a very fast little car. When I get a chance, I will scan the pictures that I took in Gingerman with Lotus Elise on track.
