Wow Wayne. Sorry dude. One less S in the DC area. Will you get another S when the insurance is settled? If you can stomach it, can you take some more pics in daylight?

How fast were you going? Looks like you might have been doing a good speed. I know you said you werent speeding but if thats an interstate it could still be 65 range.

The AP1 does one thing exceptionally well... track duty. That's it. Everything else can be a gamble... Anuva one bites the dust. The gentlemen who bought my baby never even got the F-cking tag... 32 yoa too.. I turn 27 next month.

This is why I want them/Honda to either kill the car or add all of the safety features ya'll shot down above, before adding more power.

Peace & Nub.

that is one of the dumbest and most ignorant posts I have read on here.

self control and common sense is cheaper and safer than any traction control device you could add to this car

So many opinions based on so few facts.

I wonder:

What was the ambient temperature?
What tires was this MY00 S2000 wearing?
How was the tread?
Did the driver down shift into second to accelerate or up shift into second?
How experienced was the driver?
How much speed was the car carrying, when the driver executed the shift?

Grand Prix White with Red/Black interior is such a beautiful and rare car. I'm sorry this one is gone.

I am so impressed with the apparent frequency of S2000 spins and with the apparent passenger protection in serious accidents.

thanks for the support guys. as for all your questions:

- car is GPW with black/red interior.
- happened about 5am, maybe 40 degrees out. roads not completely dry yet.
- had on S02 with 10K on them
- i was upshifting to 2nd at 30 mph
- as for experience, been driving the S daily since i got it july last year, so im pretty confident in my driving
- wasnt speeding or racing, not only because i dont street race, but the road i was on is frequent to a lot of traffic from people driving home from the club, therefore, many cops
- both airbags went off, but my face never touch them
- my name's mike, not wayne, hehe

thanks again. hopefully i can get another one...

Mike, that is the answer. Thanks for being so open.

The SO2 tires don't do well when the outside temperature drops to 40 deg F. The tread is made for sticking to warm and hot roads, but at 40 deg ambient temperature the SO2 loses grip. Wet made it even worse.

I'm sorry you found out the hard way. Once, when this site had a working search function, you could pull up a lot of threads about the SO2 tires being for "Summer Only."

Silly how people immediately start saying the S needs stability control blah blah blah. Look at those four statments:

40 degrees on tires that are summer only. Summer only means more than just no snow on the ground. At those temps, the tires will not perform as optimally.

Wet roads and RWD requires care regardless of other factors.

S02 with 10k miles on them IE bald tires.

upshifting at 30 mph 1st to 2nd means you were in the cars power range.

This same wreck would not have happened if there was tread on the tires and the car was not upshifting in vtec range on wet roads.
