Default losing power

well i have a 01 S with about 68K on it, always do the oil change with Mobil 1 10W30. just recently had the manual trans fluid flushed as well as the rear diff fluid. No aftermarket upgrades have been done, besides cosmetic. I just dont feel it's performing at it's best, just dont know if it's just me or the car. I've also noticed some problems in my clutch, its starting to stick could this be the problem? at the same time i'm hearing weird sounds from my engine as, would valve adjustment fix the problem? someone also recommended a fuel injection cleaning.

- Dirty air filter?

- Valve adjustment?

- Old spark plugs?

- Bad gasoline?

- You got too used to VTEC perhaps, I prescribe you stay out of it for at least a month

my airfilter is sligtly starting to turn black, so i might go out and buy one. How much does a valve adjustment cost? arent the spark plugs supposed to be changed every 100,000 miles on the s2k. well i'm not sure if i'm using bad gasoline, but i always get 93 octane from sunoco. And i olny hit v-tech once in the blue moon.

You'll have to give a better description of your symptoms in order for anyone to make a good guess. But for another guess, is the clutch slipping? This will definately slow you down some?

Factory plugs are good for over 100,000 miles iirc. Doesn't mean you shouldn't give them a look but if they look good they are probably not your problem.

You know it IS getting hot most places. Hondas are very sensative to warm weather and S2Ks are more so than most. That could be part of it.

Its hard to tell because you don't have any way to MEASURE the car's performance and compare it to the same measurement from, say, a year ago to see if it actually is slowing down.

The above suggestions for things to check is a good place to start, though.

If your air filter is getting black, of course I cannot imagine how black that is, it will propably be a good idea to change it. Can you still see the green underneath? How many miles did you do on the current filter? The stealership changed my spark plugs after only 30000km or so (for free ) So I didn't mind. I would check the plugs if I was you, just to see how they look and how burnt they are... No good spark, no good ignition, no good or too less air, not enough gasoline/air mix to have a good combustion... No idea what a valve adjustment will cost you but it WILL make a difference, especially when you have high mileage and no adjustment up until now. I'd check/change these first, if it is not resolved, let us know

thats you problem right there. our cars have an learning type computer. if you fart around town and never exercise the car, it will tune itself so. reset the ecu and then take the car out and really drive the hell out of it. your not going to hurt it in anyway.
