I'll ditto the earplugs suggestion. There's just too much noise, particularly top down, for long drive comfort without them.

I've done several 12-hour days in the S over the years.... The other thing I'd recommend is a lower back pillow (even a towel could work). I find that's a sore spot for me in the Ss seats. I use a back pillow that has two wings on the sides and just fits nicely at the bottom of the back of the seat. That really helps.

Definitely!! I need a solution for that. I rolled up a thin sweater last time and then I had to readjust alot or remove it every now and then.

first got the S2k drove nj to denver in 2days. slept in the car. no big thing. gps?

i you find your self in colorado:
there are two roads: hwy93 Golden - Boulder Colorado and hwy119 (peak to peak hwy) from Rolinsville - EstesPark that run roughly parallel, the first in the valley the other in the mountains. several canyon roads between these two. both 93 and 119 are accessible from i70, a east/west interstate. up one canyon road and down another. some of the canyon roads are:
-hwy36 Lions - EstesPark
-Saint Vrain Canyon hwy7
-Left Hand Canyon
-Boulder canyon hwy119 Boulder - NederLand
-Coal Creek Canyon, hwy72
-Golden Gate Canyon, hwy42 (avoid... natives are restless)

see a map on the googles... have fun.

when i picked up my S from Vancourver, BC....it was a 12 hours drive home to Edmonton, Alberta.....

it was in January, and the S had summer tires on and i had to go throught the Rocky Mountains like that !!! hahaha....

i was very scared to sudden weather changes and icy surface on the roads in the mountains, but it turned out the be fine......

but the "last hour" drive home took me more than 2, cuz there was freezing rain, and i could my the car sliding even going on straight line...so i was probably going like 40km/h on a 110km/h highway...hahahha

I've done 17 hour straight drives on 3 seperate occasions. Will be making my 4th one in about a month time. I make this commute twice a year because my university is pretty far from home. I do however recommend you bring a couple of cds or cds filled with mp3s if you deck is capable of playing mp3. Also you'll be adjusting your driving position a lot because my ass goes numb after a couple of hours, so you may want some cushions...

Hmm. How about this.

Houston -> Atlanta -> The Dragon -> Florida.

The via I-10: Florida -> Big Bend National Park and state highway 170 -> Ft Davis and the Ft Davis Mountains scenic loop and McDonald Observatory.

Then I-10 -> I-25 -> I-40 -> Petrified Forest National Park -> Meteor Crater -> Flagstaff.

Then Gran Canyon National Park -> Hoover Dam and Lake Mead -> Las Vegas.

Then Death Valley National Park -> Yosemite National Park.

Then San Franciso -> Napa/Sonoma wineries -> Pacific Coast Highway -> Redwood National Park -> Portland OR -> Mt St Helens -> Mt Rainier -> home to Seattle.
Wow! You read my mind!

Richee, I think you should take his route as I've traveled through some of those roads before myself. You should also consider taking parts of the old Route 66 (if you plan on swinging by Cali) which can occasionally have some interesting twists as well as Americana. Definitely need to hit up 66 in th Mojave desert.

Earplugs are a must. I did some audiometry the other day and found out I have slight decreased hearing on my left ear. Gee I wonder why

Well, I went to the mall today and got a Tempurpedic support pillow. Tried it out on the way home and so far, its pretty effective for my lower back. But yeah, now its time to find a solution for the sore ass part.

Long trips in the S = inevitable sore ass and bothersome lower back.

Tom, as I mentioned earlier, even tho the southwest and parts of kali probably have the best areas for drives, already been that route so I dont think I'll be hittin that up. The only thing for sure, as of right now, is that I'll be driving the FL keys top down! And Im 99% sure Im gonna hit up The Dragon. I wonder if I can get the "I Slayed The Dragon" badge if I do it myself, hahahaha.

Anyway, anyone have a remedy for the sore ass part?? Any company sell a semi-thin gel cushion or anything?? Hahah.

O, my roof got slashed in December so I no longer have my nav. I'll probably ask a local or my friend to borrow their NAV and ship it back when I get home. Any offers?? lol
