Default Longest Break-in Period

I was sitting here this evening looking out at the terrible weather and wishing I was driving my S, when I began to wonder how soon other new model owners have gotten to 600 miles.

I know the topic of break-in has been much debated, but for me, I'm being over-cautious. How long did it take other new model owners to get past the 600-mile mark? Did anyone just drive 600 miles the day they purchased to get past the break-in period? Again, I don't want to open the argument of whether the break-in period should be followed or not, many have strong opinions on both sides .

I'm going on 5 days now (at 150 miles), the weather has kept the S in the garage most of the time. The more I wait, the greater the anticipation. I've even considered that Honda recommends the break-in to build the anticipation so that when a new owner finally does hit vtec, it is all the more rewarding...

Anyway, enough of the rambling, the idle clutch-foot has got my mind wandering.

I agree with you there. in my '01 model, I drove a beauty queen in a parade during a torrential downpour. She didn't end up looking too good as we made our way through the parade, but the S looked just fine, nothing a few dozen towels couldn't clean up.

I've definitely heard of people finishing break in the day of purchase. Usually they're the one's who have purchased far from home and have to drive back.

I don't remember how long it took to reach 600 miles, maybe 5-6 days. btw, it takes more than 600 miles to break in a motor.

When I first got my S, I used to take her down to point Reyes Blvd all the way to Hwy 1 at 2:00 am, sometimes cruising to Stinson Beach. When I reached 600 miles, I was like wtf

I did one wot run for about 3/4 of a mile reaching about 8k in 5th gear with about 900 miles on the engine then shut it down. I did the same thing at about 1,200, 2,000, 4,000 and 6,000 miles. The runs at 4,000 and 6,000 miles were 1 mile runs. The car got progressively faster and faster the more miles I put on the engine, on each run.

I got 10,150 miles on my baby and she still runs like a thoroughbred race horse

EDIT: I don't advocate high speed driving as you can be seriously injured or killed. Please adhere to your local laws and drive accordingly. I am not responsible for any damages resulting from an accident causing serious bodily injury, or property damage or death.

made it to 600 the first weekend. I do understand about not wanting to get your car wet and dirty though. My 03 has never been in the rain yet, weird I know but that's just how it's worked out. In the beginning it was just accidental now it's gone on for 15 months and I won't drive it in the rain. Funny how much cleaner the engine compartment looks top and bottom when the spray never dirtys everything up.
Whoever gets this car when it comes off lease will be getting a great car.
