Life after S
#21
If you like the personality of the S2000 (i.e., high strung engine, nimble suspension), the only comparable car that I would consider calling an "upgrade" would be a Ferrari. The NSX is nifty, but for that price, I want more power. BMWs, Porsches, Vettes are all great performers, but they have an entirely different personality than the S2000.

Let me commit a sin by envying you for a few mere seconds. If serious, stick with your S for another year. I have seen legit spy photos of BMW's M4. Matter of fact, there was a small article on it about 5-7 months ago in a car rag. It spoke about offering a beefed up V-8. I think streetracers.com offers insight on this ride. Also, perhaps hold tight for the new M3. I 've seen pics of this beauty and she is .
I have had my S for just over 2 months now. Love the cockpit, the exhaust note, the shifter, the mean-ass look from the front, the gizillion candle-watt Xenon lights and the performance/handling, but I must imagine that any of the M3s/M4s of the future with SMG have to be cutting edge and masterfully engineered- albeit for many $$$ more.

S2000 is cool car and best in its class and all for its price...
however there are lots of cars that performs better and more fun to drive............... and those cars that u mentioned above M3 NSX and 911
i think they are definately lot of JUMP from the S2000
u have to think big
if u r satisfied with what u have then u will never get to explorer what is better out there
just my opinion...

I'm not sure what is coming to us in a few years from Honda/Acura but I think we will get something with better performance then any af the current formentioned competition. It may be in the 40 to 50 grand price range, but it will be years ahead of any of it's competitors. This is what my next car will be. One can only hope this to be true!

Overall, I'm looking to stay under $75K. Any car I get will be used primarily as a daily driver with very very little track time
I've driven an E46 M3 and I liked it, but I just haven't been able to pull the trigger.
With the 911, I'm not sure which variant (C2 or C4) I would enjoy more.
I've always lusted over an NSX, but I don't feel like I'd be really "gaining" anything over the S2000.
The C6 is another option, but I've never been happy with Corvette seats before.
Maybe the truth is I really love my S and I'm making excuses not to take the jump into something else, but I'm really unsure if I will enjoy any car more than the S.

If you live in Nebraska, and you're using the car for a daily driver, even when it's snowy/icy... I'd say get the 911 C4. You should be able to pick up an 996 C4 for ~50K in a year or so (maybe less, I haven't checked prices, since I can't afford one!). You get fun performance, daily drivability, and AWD traction.
If you aren't going to drive it in inclement weather, I'd go with the C2 because it's slightly lighter, and you don't have the parasitic losses of an AWD configuration. Actually, at your price target, you could probably get into a used GT3... but it might be a bit harsh for daily driver duties.
