Lets grind...
I can't believe it... I have the 1 - 2 gear grind. I only have about 400 miles on my baby and today coming home from work (30 min hwy drive) I got to exprience the dreaded grind. I have a late production MY 01 (VIN 94XX), I'm assuming this is very close to the last batch of 01s that were produced.
My question is this, IF (big 'if') my car was one of the last 01s produced, I can assume it was built very close to the 02s as well. And if this is the case should we expect the MY 02s to have the same grind issues as well.
Can any late prod. MY 01 or MY 02 comment on wether they have experienced the grind problem?

The 1-2 grind TSB only applies to MY2000. This implies that it was fixed in MY2001 and beyond. However, I have had a few grinds myself (4500 miles) and I am not sure if it was driver error or not. Time will tell.

Many people with MY2001 cars have had the grind issue, even though Honda supposedly fixed it. Many who have had the TSB done on their MY2000 cars have had the grind return. There seems to be a design flaw - not all cars grind, but the design is obviously not robust enough with so many people experiencing the problem. Do a search - this has been discussed at great length. Honda originally said that it was a tolerence stacking problem (which was addressed in the TSB), but it appears to be something more.

First of all... you should NOT be experiencing the grind because at 400 miles you're not VTEC'ing, like the owner's manual says, right? The ONLY time we get the grind is a shift near redline. Otherwise chalk it up to driver error. Please, don't tell me at 400 miles you're shifting at redline, eh?
So anyway, my 2001 has the grind and it got worse from 4K miles to 7K miles. I intend on requesting warranty service for it at my 7500 mile service next week, along with a defective alarm and a few other smaller things.

Some people with '01's have had the TSB fix done. If I were you, I'd wait to get the supposedly updated '02 parts on the tranny.
I have an '00 and I don't have the grind. I find that the gears are a lot notchier when I shift at the lower RPMs as opposed to the higher ones. When I shift at 6K+, it goes in really smooth. Under 6K, and sometimes I get notchiness.

I performed a search and read and understood this issue before I posted. It was my understanding that the grind can/has occured at any range of the RPM and it usually occurs when the gear box is warmed up or hot. I am also aware that the grind should have been fixed for the MY 01. But I read countless posts last night about MY 01 with production numbers as high as the 6xxx still experiencing this problem. I just wanted to know since my 94xx seems (I do not know how many MY 01 were shipped to US) to be close to the end of prduction for 01 is it possible that the 02s can have the similar grind issues. Oh yeah for all you non-believers I can confirm that it was not driver error

Low-S2000, I have also experienced the grind but, unlike most members, mine has only been on the downshift to 2nd. Maybe only 5-10 times total, always when plenty hot, and most times I think I was at or around 6K. Never on the upshift. Of course I have learned that I might not be as aggressive as some of the others on the upshifts. Is yours a '00 or an '01? And did the dealer fix the problem? I'm thinking of having the tsbs for the clutch and the tranny done at one time, should I expect any grief from the dealer? Sure hope they have some experience in this. Mine is a '00 with 10K miles. Thanks in advance for your info & advice.
