On a car which has sat around a very long time, like this '07, you certainly need to consider that:
a. Battery will have greatly reduced service life.
b. Depending on storage and climate conditions, there may be significant deterioration of the tires. Especially true if stored out of doors in a sunny climate.
c. If the car has been in the showroom most of the time, the doors have been opened and slammed many hundreds of times, and the seats similarly slid across and abused.
d. Fluids may have deteriorated, from long periods of non-usage plus occasional starts and stops with no significant warm-up. While cheap, a pre-delivery oil change would be mandatory.

All considered, the vehicle is probably in slightly better shape than a low mileage used 2007. Bargain very carefully, and inspect very carefully.

I just scored a 2007 GPW new at the dealer for $26,500 a few weeks back. They intially did not want to do $26,500, but they reconsidered when I started to walk out.

Good Luck!!

Thanks for the pointers Levy. I'm going back to talk with the salesman tomorrow and I'll bring that up when trying to make a deal. Good news is they kept it inside, tires appear to be like new, and the interior appears to be in perfect shape. All that said, there is a small scrape on the trunk

Thanks for all the replies, they've been really helpful

I nearly traded my '02 for an '06 GPW...but I resisted...the price was $28k which I thought wasn't too bad...and they weren't killing me on my trade in...offering $14k for my '02 that had 125k miles on odometer. The deal would've left me with $14k and payments of about $450 for 36 months... I really couldn't justify it.

Best of luck...but I agree, $27k or about that should be the target price. They have some sort of "hold back" from Honda, I'm sure... What a shame. No S2000 should be "homeless."

airgate- i woulda jumped on that deal so fast.
levy-
a. you're battery is covered by warranty to last what 3-5 years? on top of that you have your manufacturer's warranty.
b- i agree with this
c- definitely +1 on this, i bought my car from the showroom and didnt notice a dent in the fender. looks like some fat ass mofo sat on/ leaned on my fender while the car was in the showroom. so inspect carefully for dents.
d.do you really wanna get rid of the "special" "break in oil"? besides, i dont think fluids deteriorate that quickly.

Well, the market value of the car has dropped so dramatically in the past 2 years, that's really all an 07 is worth now in most of the US, and the car itself just has no demand for it's price bracket regardless. The 08s are selling cheaper then any new model has ever sold as well. Still hard to believe Honda overproduced this car. Sadly, it's been made too long, and Honda should have stopped production after 06. Ashame it didn't happen, but it is what it is.

Great benefit to those who get those prices, because essentially it's like letting your car sit at dealer for a year without being able to drive it, and not having to pay for the depreciation. Getting a car that's been sitting for a year is a small price to pay for saving a few grand in savings.

I guess I'm keeping mine, because I can't take a hit like that on trade in. I will have to keep mine at least 5 years now. My initial plan was to trade it in for the Mazdaspeed Miata when it comes out next year, because that car is likely gonna be 250+hp and 250+ torque likely weighing in at less then 2700lbs. That's life!!!
