I know you guys are tired of hearing this but I thought I would help put this topic to bed. Yes Honda is not making the S2000 after the 2005 model year. The reason is not due to slow sales even though it is true, but the car which came out in 2000 was orginally only slotted to be sold for two years. Due to the very high demand they continued the design the full 5 years. Now that they have reached it they will end the production with no new pick up yet in sight. They are looking into replacing the S with a whole new car. My counsin works at the corporate headquarters so thats how I know all this. Now we all know.

Read through all of the previous threads about the S2000 being disco'ed. There are lots of people saying "my dad's brothers sisters mom knows a guy thats a janitor at a honda dealer" etc.

Until there is an official press release, the car hasn't been discontinued.

Has anybody mentioned the fall of the almighty dollar relative to the yen in this discussion? If Honda was making a reasonable profit on every S2000 sold in the States three years ago, it sure isn't doing that now.

Between Feb '02 and Feb.'05, the dollar has fallen about 24% compared to the yen, and the slide is expected to continue. However, given the competitive nature of the market here, it is very difficult to raise the price significantly.

Honda can still make money on models produced in the U.S. (Accord, Oddessy, etc.) but certainly not those "hand made" in Japan (on which it is quite possibly losing money). That would seem to suggest stopping production, or at least no longer exporting S2000's to the U.S.
