What everyone in this thread should do is go visit The Car Lounge over at Vortex Media/vwvortex. It is the largest automotive forum on the internet. I have been a very active member there for the past 9 years.

They don't allow ANY pictures in signatures, and 5 lines of text max. Avatars are chosen from a list and are very unobtrusive. These restrictions make the forum immensely easier to read, while still allowing for some humor/individual expression with each post. I really like this setup, and once people are used to it, it makes every other forum (like this one) seem extemely annoying and distracting. They also use zeroform software which is a lot better and a LOT faster than this and most other sites.

On The Car Lounge, the text of the posts dominate the page, as it should. On this forum (and almost all others) avatars and signatures dominate the page.

Take a look at http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=1 I think you'll like it.

Just to be clear, whatever the powers to be want is fine with me.
Signatures are no big deal to me, one way or the other, so you guys do whatever you think is best for the community at large.
S2kI will continue to get my support, even if I should stop posting for some reason.

RED MX5 - slow down. If we had a prize for the person who posts the most stuff back to back, you'd win everytime

I have nothing against you or what you say, but just so you know - when you post as much as you do in one thread (and as long-winded as you are....I'm the same way ) I only read one or two of your posts. If you want people to catch your side of the argument, try to post it in a shorter version. This is general advice - not solely for this thread.

You're confused because this thread has become confusing. My Site Info is the moderators' forum, and cthree did not post his signature capping changes there. I've just continued on doing things like I usually do....in regards to signatures. I do believe this thread serves as an "awareness" posting, and will continue to answer questions in it.

Personally I think the signature cap is not small enough. 600 pixels wide is fine, but 300 pixels tall is too tall. I wouldn't want to see us go to a VWVortex setup - I like creative individualism.....I just don't like tons of it in my face when I'm trying to read posts.

I reduced mine a few months ago as I found a few others were too big and realised mine wasn't much better

I use the MyS2K button to keep track of things. I have a few forums I subscribe to, and check at least one time daily (S2000 Talk, Mid Atlantic, Photography, Moderators). On occasion I'll venture into other areas (Car Talk, Photo Gallery, Off Topic, Electronics, Wash/Wax, Politics) or follow links somewhere.

I couldn't image navigating any forum with emails

Thanks to everyone who is taking the Signature Slim Fast diet

I find signatures ridiculously unnecessary.... and perhaps even juvenile; save the "personal expressions" for your MySpace page.

I have signatures turned off.

Now, while we're on this topic, I really wish there is the option to turn off the "assigned avatars". Please, I need not know that you slayed the dragon; are an electronics junkie; live in Maryland; are Wax Wacko; etc
