key fob hitting knee - any solutions?

Your's was the best suggestion. Some times it the simple ones that we never think of. I took a round headed bolt of the appropriate size and length for the car key, garage key, and key fob. Put some very fine washers between them and then placed a thumb screw type nut on the other end with some Loctite to hold it. This way there are no sharp edges at either end when folded up in your pocket. Looks like it will work great. Thanks very much. .
I did consider the other ideas. Especially the knee pads.
LOL. Also, I looked at 911 with 6k miles on it just last week but asking price of $69k had kinda of dirty sex ring to it. 
I tried the short loop using a very small plastic tie, but your left with the sharp edges of the lock tab and it generally seemed to get in the way.

I actually experienced my car turning off on the freeway cuz my keys/key chain was too long and my knee knocked the ignition key to acc. Scary when driving 70mph! 
I quickly put it neutral, coasted a bit wondering why it happened, started it back up and went on. Didn't figure it out until my knee hit the keys again, but didn't turn it. First time it happened since I've had my car (18 months).

Those of us under 5'4" don't have these problems. We can barely reach the pedals much less hit the keys with our knees!

Instead of bolts, try Chicago Binding Posts. They are used to bind ledger pages, are smooth on both ends, and come in a variety of lengths. You can find them at an office supply.
