This has been discussed before but we have a few witnesses that have seen acceleration
contests between normally geared S2000's and those with higher #'s and at least one of
them I spoke with said the stock car caught up to the higher geared cars at around 100 or
so and walked it.
That was what I was told, not my .02 Does this seem plausible? In real world driving, of
course the higher gears would be nicer....I'm just wondering how it all balances out when
the speeds exceed 100mph.

Thanks Racer. Sad that I could not get that right. Lol. I do more "real world" driving than racing. I will go light to light every now and then, but that is it. How much of a difference will the RPM be on the highway cruising at about 80-85 mph?

I have maxed out my S2K. I was able to turn 8,700 rpm's in 5th gear. According to the speed chart, (compliments of the xviper) I was going 139.32 mph. The motor would not turn any faster. I held it at 8,700 for about 4 or 5 seconds, then shifted into 6th. I remained at 139 mph for about 4 or 5 seconds then I DROPPED 1 mph off my speed. Basically I had the car maxed out. If I was going downhill with a strong tail wind, I think I could reach 155 mph. It would take, I assume, about 4 or 5 miles. Just kidding about the tail wind.
If I had a 4.77 installed, 8,900 in 5th would be 122.5 mph. This car does 122 miles per hour in fifth gear with the stock diff very easily. With the 4.77 gears, the S2k should reach 122 mph quicker than the 4.10 gears. The lower gear takes less power to turn, which is how I have come to this conclusion. The engine would spin 8,200 rpm's in 6th at 135 mph. If the car can hold 138-139 mph in 6th with a stock diff, then I don't see how having lower gears would make it accelerate any slower. With lower gears, it will accelerate quicker up to 140-145 mph. I determined this by theory.
It is true, the car will not go as fast overall with the lower gears, but if you think about it, the bloody car does not have nearly enough power to go 170 mph. That is 6th gear at 8,900 rpm with a stock diff and stock tires. With the 4.77's, top speed is about 145 mph.
I will someday install a 4.57 gear to prove my point, but for now, I have to rely on theory.
