the vtec doesn't really hit hard in my car. i notice a change in tone and a push, but it was nowhere of a kick like toyota's lift. now that was a kick.

but smother transition is faster

also the ap2 probably has less noteiceable kick because an increase of torque from ap1?

 

check oil level
i was told once that at low oil level vtec won't engage not sure if it's true now
