well just got a price from one of the local honda dealers here in st. louis, MO he told me the top itself will cost me 2989, something like that, and 600 for the little dolly thingy to roll it around, 88/hr and 2 hour install, and 100 destination cost, and local taxes and shipping, which will bring it to about $4000 something like that. DAMN!! I think this is high. What did everybody pay for theirs? Oh he also told me that it will take 3-5 months to get and all has to be prepaid and no returns. Any thoughts??

that's actually a really good price (best confirmed price I'd seen prior to this was $3250). the dolly is, of course, fully optional - and by all acounts install is pretty easy - so you could do it yourself. so you really have a pretty good bargain, if you look at it in comparison with the other sources. lead time is par for the course; i believe this is becuase they have to know the VIN in advance.

Consider yourselves lucky. A new hardtop for a Mercedes SL class will run you about $25k!

*Miata hardtop = $1500
*Z3 hardtop = $1900
*Boxster hardtop = $2295

Honda is making a little extra cash on the S2000 hardtop.

i dont get it - what is there to install? i'd imagine you can remove the hardtop if you'd like. you don't have to go back to the dealer for them to remove it, do you?

yes, that sounds incredibly stupid. so will someone please clarify? thanks.

My dealer quoted me $2,500 for the hardtop (no cart), including installation, with the purchase of my S2000. I've been told the dealer's cost on the hardtop is about $2,100, plus $100 shipping from Honda, so I figured he was pretty much giving it to me at his cost (and making all his money on the car).

BTW, if your dealer told you two hours for installation, IMHO he either has a crew of Santa's elves in his shop or he hasn't seen Honda's 10 pages of instructions. After reading them, I canceled my hardtop order. My car won't see very many winter days anyway, and I certainly don't want my dealer's elves disassembling my brand-new interior to install the hardtop. If you want to see the instructions for yourself, one of the forum's good sponsors posted them at http://www.HandA-Accessories.com/S2000/s2khardtop.pdf

There's also another hardtop thread at http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...p?threadid=8942

I'm sure the installation process will be worth the hassle for people who really want hardtops, but the interior disassembly/reassembly tradeoff made the hardtop not such an important item for me. However, if Honda had been smart enough to offer the hardtop as a factory-installed option in the U.S., as it has in Canada (as part of a "special edition" yellow), I gladly would have paid the difference.

I agree with Spa2k, have any of you guys seen the install listed in a post the other day. Looks to me like a bitch
I'm sure some of you could do it but no way I'd attempt it. Put me off on ordering one too, too much jerking around with my interior.

I ordered mine with the original order of the car, so it came with all the bits & pieces in place already. Looks REAL nice. Hard to see that it's a softop with this top on.

Paid about what you've been quoted, but the equiv. in Pesetas, naturally! Well worth the price if you have cold, wet weather. (Winter is below freezing at nite in Madrid!)

Had some trouble with getting mine on & off at first due to a misalignment. They finally got it aligned just about right, and it's easy to put on & off, but I still get wind whistling at the back of the driver's window. Complained, but was ignored...of course! Still, happy I got it.

I have it from a very reliable source that the dealer cost for the hard top is just under $2400 with the destination charge. As for the installation, I suppose you could do without removing some of the panels if you want the wiring to show. The initial installation is required to get the wiring and the rear latches into place. Once this is complete, the only thing you have to do to remove the top is unhook 4 latches (2 front, 2 rear) and unplug the rear defroster. I've think the top looks good if you want a top. Honestly, the best way to drive a roadster is with the top down.
