Just got a new S2000, got some questions, please help!
i am newbie and i just got a new 02 white/red S2000 yesterday. i got some questions ..
1. shall i kick in V-tec during the break in period?
2. i shift at about 3K RPM everytime, is that good enough?
3. from honda dealer, they told me it's 600miles break in, so should i go oil change earlier or later?
4. anything else i need to concern about during the break in period?
please give me some opinions.
thanks

Congrats,
I also just got a new S2000. Here's what I've come up with so far regarding break-in.
1. Probably not a good idea to get into Vtec during breakin.
2. i don't think that's a problem.
3. you should change the oil as per the manual (3750 miles or 6 months or something like that) Don't go to synthetic until you get 10,000 miles.
This is what I've gathered from reading this forum myself. Hopefully others will chime in with other good info.
ps - ok, so I got into V-tec once or twice during break in, i had to!

Do a search on break-in. There is lots of info here. Basically, to answer your immediate questions:
1) DO NOT VTEC during the 600 milke break-in!!!
2) DO NOT change the oil at 600 miles. There is a special break-in oil that needs to stay in the car for the engine parts to seat properly
3) No need to shift at 3K. You can take her to just before 6,500 (VTEC time). Enjoy the high-reving motor!
4) Get some nice detailing stuff and clay bar, polish and wax your car.

I've had mine about a month and a half.....
1. The manual explicitly says not to go over 5500 RPM until after the 600 mile break-in period. So more than being "probably" not a good idea, you shouldn't do it.
2. The manual also gives Honda's recommended shift points for low impact driving. They are 15mph, 26mph, 40mph, 47mph, and somewhere in the mid 50's. If you watch, you'll find that those correspond to about 4K RPM. That's probably more efficient use of your engine than shifting at 3K -- and a little more fun as well. I got about 23 MPG using those points.
3. Be sure to check the oil regularly and add if needed. But don't change the oil until the first regular period -- 7500 for normal driving, or 3750 for heavy stop and go, dusty conditions, short trips in freezing weather , etc. They put in special oil at the factory, and that should stay in until the first normal change.
4. Have fun, but try to keep all four wheels on the ground at all times.
Cheers,

Unlike others, I creeped into V-Tec a few times before the engine was fully broken in. I just couldn't help it. Also, I just got my first oil change at around 4500 miles.
Hmmm. shifting at 3k?? Never did that. More like 4-5.
Shoot, hope this doesn't all come bite me in the A**.
