Just bought a 2001 S2000... needs a new Clutch Kit... warranty issue... need advice
3 weeks ago I traded my 325 Coupe straight up for a 2001 S2000, from a local Nissan dealer. Brought the S2000 to the local Honda dealer because of a vibration I was getting, and they say the car needs a new Clutch Kit. Apparently this is addressed in a TSB...
Anyway, the car was one week beyond the factory warranty when I brought it in. It had 30,100 miles. The Honda dealer says they're willing to pay for the parts ($300), but I have to pay for the labor ($700).
So I go back to the Nissan dealer where I bought the car in the first place, and they're saying that the clutch is a wear and tear issue and so is not covered under their 3 month used car warranty.
A couple of issues here: 1) Is the Honda dealer treating me fairly? If I was the original owner of the car, I'd say they ought to give me a little more consideration, since I came in just one week after the warranty expired and well under the mileage limit. But I bought the car elsewhere, second-hand, so I'm not sure. 2) The Nissan dealer where I bought the car... are they being truthful when they say they don't have to cover the cost for this repair? Is it common for a dealer not to stand behind a car 3 weeks after purchase, even if it's a wear and tear issue?
Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

Well, I'd say the nissan dealer isn't responsible, as all 00-01 S2000's have this same problem.
I would stress to your Honda dealer that it is a problem with all 00-01 S2000's, therefore they should cover it completely, as they KNOW that it was a problem before your warranty was expired. If they still tell you to pay for labor, tell them you will contact Honda America and have them approve it. More than likely they will approve it under their good will program.
I had mine done 1 week before warranty expired... but I'm sure you'll be able to do it. DO NOT pay one cent!

Yeah the Honda dealer is being whiny. They are under no obligation to fix it, since you're out of warranty, but it's still a pretty crappy thing to do when you know there's a TSB out on it. I bet you can find another dealer who will do it for you.
