Default JDM shift knob bling blang y0!

JDM (Just Done it Myself) weight-reduction bling!

And another one, oh snap!

Sorry about this thread. Needed a project for today - finally put my little lathe to use on something other than a candle-holder. Delrin is easy to work with, but I suck at finding the center of these to drill and tap - oh well, doesn't really matter if they're not centered.

Actually, there was a point to this thread. If anyone's using Delrin shift-knobs, it'll be people in this forum. So, a question: do the commercial ones have threaded inserts, or is the Delrin itself just tapped? I just wonder about the longevity of the threads on ones I made.

While I must admit that it looks damn fine, isn't the purpose usually to ADD weight to the shift knob for quicker and lighter throws?

That looks a lot like one www.ricks2k.com used to sell.

Cool stuff.

Might I make a recommendation? What about doing the drill and tap first? Then screw the delrin onto a rod, reset the piece with the rod in the chuck, and then do your contouring and finishing cuts.

I want a shift knob just like that, I seem to shift better with a taller shift knob so I can negotiate the shift gates easier.
