I agree for the most part, but I think our little car is also a bit different from most Japanese cars. If you were to mod most other Jap cars with JDM parts it would be for performance, as well as bling because a lot of USDM parts for Jap cars are just plain crap. But for the S, we all know most bolt-ons will result in minimal gains whether they're from the US, Japan or Guatemala [well....Guatemala might be a few less horsies ].

I think the people that buy JDM stuff just so they can say they have JDM stuff on their cars are the people suffering from small-penis syndrome. I intend to buy a Mugen exhaust simply because it sounds badass, but I think it's worth the 1500 bucks and not because of the name or country of origin.

Actually I feel the opposite.

I see your point on the prices and all, but to me its about the car I drive, If I had a Mercedes or BMW I would sport most mods that originated in Germany or Europe, If I had a Dodge I would buy more Mopar or USDM parts. Since I drive a Honda I tend to buy parts that originated in Japan . To me it makes more sense.

I am not saying you cant find quality parts for Japanese cars in the US or Europe, but most of the best parts tend to come from the country of origin. However if I where to build my motor I would probably do it thru Hytech (they build quality parts that work ), instead of buying a J's or other JDM crate motor. Comptech also has some really nice parts.

It just seems there is more people who talk sh!t in the Honda and Acura forums about "JDM Bling" or thats "JDM tyte yo" and when you look at cars that everyone in the forums really like they all have a JDM theme (Tommy from Go Tuning, Kel's track car, both of Medical students cars, Diez's car etc)... I mean if you go to a Bimmer forum I doubt you will see many folks saying the AC Schnitzer kit is stupid, because its expensive or suggesting that someone buy a seibon hood over a Euro make

In the Honda seen there are lots of people who want to build cars and go after a certain look, but dont want to spend the money on high end parts to get the look they are after. Thats why company's like Rota, Shine, and others who make copy cat parts make so much $$$ (I am not saying any of the parts are junk or dont fit the way they should, just pointing out the way the US market is).

In Japan prices are more expensive and the people of Japan dont mind spending lots of $$$ on their hobby, while in the US everyone wants to build there cars for as little $$$ as possible.

I am generalizing based on what I have seen in the years I have been envolved with tuning imports (about 14yrs and counting), I am not trying to flame anyone or start an internet war . Just my thoughts on the subject .

Sorry for the book
Sorry for being OT but is that the Mugen front lip? Got any better pictures of it? Does it scrape more than the OEM lip?

If you own a Japanese car, everything from its home country (JDM) is so totally cool Look at drifting. Now every nitwit with a "tuner" car is a drift expert. Even the girls in short skirts at car shows have to look like they are imported from Japan.

Tuning a car is just like anything else in life. If you're in the know, then you know. If you don't know or care, then it means nothing to you. Watches: a Timex and an Omega may be just as appealing, regardless of their price difference. Same with cars. For some, its a status symbol, an attention getter.

Lets compare:
Car A: S2000 sitting on 19" Konigs wrapped in Walmart tires, cut springs, huge wing and ricey body kit, dual fart can, etc.

Car B: S2000 sitting on 17" Works, J's single, coilovers, subtle body add ons (Maybe a Mugen spoiler, Mugen hardtop, etc)

To the average on looker, the first car may be equally or more appealing than the second. (While looking at both cars) Car B: What? NO centercaps on the rims? Thats ghetto. And why is the top black? Etc etc...

MY problem is when people think because its JDM, its automatically hot or superior... Take for instance, the Veilside kit. Everything I've seen from them has been gaudy and tacky. They look like something you could pick up from a JC Whitney catalogue. But, they're expensive and from Japan so... you get the drift. The only hangup I had with the S2000 was the Honda boys... the ones that pop wood when you say "SPOON" or "MUGEN". Thankfully, its still out of the average ricers price range and should be for a few more years.

And yes, its true everyone is a label whore regardless of what car you own...
Corvette guys go with CCW wheels, Ligenfelter, Borla, etc.
BMW - Hamann, ACS, Reiger, Alpina, etc
Mercedes - Lorinser, Brabus, etc
Honda - Spoon, Mugen, etc
etc etc.

Thats my .02.

Say "I" if you agree! : )

I always thought "bling" consisted of mods made strictly for looks. Most of the bling lighting effects are made in the USA, so I don't see a connection between bling and JDM speed shops. Maybe it's because so many of the blinged out cars (cars that are all show and no go) are cluttered with JDM parts, but the shops can't help it when their parts are used on show cars rather than as intended. Can they?

The prices reflect the cost consciousness of the market they are dealing with, and they're only charging what they've found that the market will bear. Do-nothing parts are always overpriced, no matter where they come from.
My dear friend MX5,please have a look at this, and, tell me again:exclusive to the USA.

Everyone wants JDM, but not everyone can afford JDM parts.
