I have heard the comments from some car enth. I know that Japanese cars have no soul such as Miata nsx s2k have any of you heard this and if so what is your reply. In my situation by next year every vehicle I own truck, car and snowmobile will be Japanese, I had mentioned it to my Dad and he said thats a shame and I told him their was a reason for it and we both agreed that reason was quality.

My S2K has more "soul" than any american car I ever had...The only ones with more "soul" were my '88CRX SI and my '85 BMW 535is....Japanese cars just need a little tweaking to get the sould out in plain sight.

Yes, I remember claims that Honda had no real racing legacy thus their cars had no soul. Yet Honda has been involved in F1 since the sixties I believe. I've owned a dozen European cars over the years, Porsches, Alfa's, BMW's, Healey's, Triumphs etc. And the one trait they all shared was breaking down at the most inopportune time. I was told this was because they had soul. This crap that Japanese cars have no soul is perpetrated by those who are on a first name basis with their mechanics who can think of no better reason why they own these temperamental European makes other than to claim that Japanese makes are soulless.

Porsche 951 you hit the nail right on the head most of the comments I have gotten are from British car owners and I have made comments to them to the effect of gee I guess if your car is unreliable and only starts 50% of the time then it has soul to which they reply oh my car is very reliable that is a misconception that these cars break down frequently. I'm not bashing other British or other cars here I have had a few but just the comments I have heard from some owners. My S2K will be the first conv. I own that I can go out with w/o carrying a complete tool set s.u. wrenches etc. and I can't wait!

I've spent all afternoon with the Helm manual, looking for the soul... and I think robb is right... it really doesn't seem to have one.

I think maybe I was misunderstood I think all cars have a soul especially the s2k I was referring to comments I have recieved from other car enthusiasts saying the s2k and other japanese sportscars don't have soul. I was curious as to the reply you guys and gals would make to these people.
