Jacked Up.

When we lived in the city, it happened to me... the other way around.
Some jackoff parked in my spot. That I paid for. That I wanted to use after working for 20 hours. And there was no street parking available.
So you bet I had their azz towed.
Maybe that's what happened since you got towed so quickly.
Next time try putting a sign in your window with your phone number. That way if someone wants their spot back, they can call you and get you to move it within minutes.
Think about it. If the tow truck was there within 20 minutes, that means someone may have been waiting for their space for 20 minutes.
Private Property dude. They don't need a sign saying "do not park."
Sorry about your car, but don't blame the tow truck guy. Rent a spot or take a cab.

Regarding your front lip being scraped. You could always call and threaten to file a claim with the BBB. Usually the BBB does jack schit but my brother claimed it when his car was towed and front bumper jacked up. The tow company sang a completely different tune afterwards and agreed to pay for the damages.

I had some bastard park in front of my car once, so I couldn't get out of a an end spot in a row. He parallel parked in too, so the tow truck just dragged the car about 30' so he could get behind it and lift it up to drive it away. He had no mercy for that car.
On the other hand, my friend used to live in an apartment complex with restricted towing. There was one sign, like 2x2 feet, that said the lot was limited to permitted cars. Five tow trucks rolled up to five specific cars, hooked them all up, and took them away in about 5 min. I ran outside to defend my car but got lucky that they only had five trucks and didn't get my car, but the guy said to move it as they'd be back.
Tow truck drivers make money on the tows, so they patrol these lots on foot then sweep in with the truck when they can get in and out quickly.

Ckit I understand what you are conveying. Nonetheless, in my particular situation I was not parked in someone's parking space, it was defined as common ground under the condo's by laws. Since it is common ground the rent a cop contacted the towing company.
I would not park in someone else's spot, it is disrespectful and stupid. Unfortunately, I have to shut my trap because under the "private property" by-laws of the condo no "warning signs" are necessary to consider "common grounds" within the property "illegal parking". It was just a frustrating situation.
By the way, you did the right thing by calling the tow truck, it is your parking space, you are paying for it.

CKit might be right about the reason, so there might be two sides. Some are out just to make money, but some are pretty honest and it's just the way it has to be.
But it sucks that you got towed, and I feel bad for you on getting your car scratched up. I wish there was a way we could have a better system for liability on that. Them towing you is one thing--frustrating, annoying, and sometimes arguably wrong--but damaging the car is quite another issue.
And I liked the dolly man thread better.
EDIT: Saki beat me to it

I paid for my extra apt parking ... no signs ... as this is in private property ... but some dude just decide to park in my spot (there are plenty space on the street) and when I got home, i honk like hell but no body comes out .. I was very pissed and about to call tow truck .. but i end up just park behind him and block him and have him honk me back ....
