As I said, I don't "think" Honda has ever endorsed the removal of the tape. If they'll take responsibility then great. However, I do believe that if you purchase a product and it comes a certain way, then if you choose to alter it the seller shouldn't be held responsible. So if Honda chooses not to take responsibility for this I wouldn't blame them.

Jay, hope you get over your scratches. I feel your pain. I hate my stook not being perfect. But...it has one of the stupid side strakes not sitting proper, and a few nicks and scratches. What can I do? Drive it! DRIVE IT!!

Good luck with your dealer fixing this one. I think it will totally depend on his attitude and little else. If he values your business, maybe. Other wise....

But it shouldn't cost too much to have the scrathes repainted by a good paint shop.

Jay, when you discuss it with the dealer you can show them an S2K with no tape in THEIR showroom, on the poster all Honda dealers show, of ALL the MY2001 cars. There's a yellow S2K with no tape. Also in the MY2000 S2K brochure there's a drawing of a red S2K with no tape.

However, most official pics show the black tape in place.

I think no one is at fault. Apparently their quality control does not guarantee perfect paint UNDER the tape. You'd have a gripe if the tape were misapplied, and you could have complained before taking delivery. This is a different matter.

I agree with the above post though. It's more fun to drive than to wax.

The tape we are talking about is around the windshield. Most cars have black tape around the windshield. Underneath the tape Honda painted the windshield frame the same color as the body and then taped over it. Some people have chosen to remove the tape. This is the first time I've heard of there being damaged paint underneath the tape. Most people have had great success removing it.

Jay: You probably signed for the delivery of a stock S2K, which means tape in place, factory installed. Removal of the tape would constitute a warranty infringement of that particular area of the cars paint. I doubt they will go for it. The dealer can reinstall the tape and or sell you the tape to install. Or you could get the area painted by a reputable paint shop fairly cheap.

Double check that it isn't glue residue. I thought I had some nicks that turned out to be hard bits of glue. I used 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner - part #08984 available at Hardware stores.

Well my dad's going in on Monday, so I'll let you guys know what the dealership says. They've been great so far, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I could live with the windshield tape back on, but I really like the look of the car without it. I'll have my dad argue that it's purely there for cosmetic reasons, hence the black cars not having any tape. I've tried more adhesive remover, and they're definitely scratches, but not too deep.

Rick, I'd love to join you guys in Asheville, but unfortunately the days of school I would miss are finals. Maybe in a couple years down the road, or even next year if the timing works out better!
