Accessing the information for the police is one thing, using it for personal use is another. This is personal use. I think it is a thin piece of ice you stand on but you obviously got away with it. I would not rock the boat by saying how you identified the lady..., You've got to understand that. Like the scenerio of the pretty girl and you look up her information..., this isn't much different. Your fist fight example is quite different as it would be the police requesting the information. What if after the fist fight the looser comes into the bank and gets a buddy to look up the information then goes out and commits a crime against that individual? You would be liable for your actions...,
I would concider myself lucky and learn from the lesson. On the short side of it though, glad things worked out for you.

^^^Exactly, you figure one would be educated enough to figure this out. One would be lucky to JUST get fire from a job of which they were caught of illegally misused the company client personal information. You're screw if the company or the client decide to press charge and that how it can end up in your record.
Employer like McDonald or your average $10-$25 job might not bother with background check or what in it, but any government agencies would and most career job will do a thorough background check.
If you're happy with how the OP handled things then so be it, but don't assumed the end result will always be the same in this situation. If you show up to a stranger house to confront them consider yourself lucky to be able to walk away. However, don't always assumed behind the unknown door there will always be some lady wearing a green dress answering the door.

One thing I love most about s2ki.com is all the free legal advice.
It amazes me how many people suddenly turn into legal experts when someone does something wrong.
No one here actually know WTF they're talking about, so stop making judgments as to what is legal, what is not legal, and the potential criminal charges someone should face. I'm glad America's legal system is not controlled by s2ki.com members.
If someone can prove to me they have professional legal training, then maybe I'll give two sh**s about their two cents.

Now me going to her house is a different story. All I had was a page from her profile with her name, address, and telephone numbers with the model of the vehicle written down.
