Default Interested in a S2000

I've become interested in buying a S2000. I currently drive a 2000 MR2 Spyder. I absolutely love my car but after 4 years, it just might be time for a change. I have a few questions that I hope can be answered, preferably by someone that has driven both cars.

1. How does the handling compare to the spyder?

2. Are there any real problems with the S2000?

3. If you were in the market for a new car, would you buy the S2000 again?

4. How easy is it to operate the top? Can you open/close it from the drivers seat?

Thank you for your time.

1.Can't help you
2.No real problems that I know of
3.yes
4.The top is very easy to operate from the drivers seat, just put e-brake on, undo 2 latches on windshield frame, push lowering switch and 6 seconds later you are topless!

1. I have heard the S is one of the best regarding handling. After 2 months of ownership, I have to agree

2. Nothing that isn't related to any roadster/droptop (space, road noise etc)

3. I want the the trim and interior of the MY04 but the rest needs to be Pre MY03 IMO (I own a MY01) But yes I would own this car over and over, especially if I could find a properly S/C version

4. See above post. it is very easy and quick for a motorized top. I can easily open or close it at any standard fresh red light with ample time to spare (it takes maybe 8 seconds from start to finish)

1. The S 2000 outhandles ANYTHING under $100,000.

2. There are some problems with the 00's. Try to find an 02 or later. The 02 and later has the glass back window, louder stereo with tweeters in the door, and some other small nuances.

3. I would definately buy another S 2000.

4. You can easily operate the S2000's convertable top from the driver's seat. You can easily reach both latches, and with a power top, it couldn't be easier. Also, in case you didn't know, the S 2000 has the fastest top in the business at 5 to 6 seconds.

Hope this helps. Do yourself a favor and trade your Spyder for an S 2000.

1.) Never driven a spyder, but i'm sure the S will outhandle it any day of the week.

2.) Only problem I've had is fighting the urge to drive all day long.

3.) Honestly if i had the money i would buy 3, and use them endlessly.

4.) I'm 5'5, short yes, and i can easily operate the top from drivers seat while strapped in w/ seatbelt. And like someone said its quite easy to convert at a redlight with plenty of time to spaire.

do yourself a favor just go test drive one. You'll fall in love!

4. Yes, you can do it from the driver seat and yes it's real fast and it's power unlike the Spyder's top ..... BUT, the manual top of the spyder has a superior folding method that doesn't require a boot cover that the S2000 needs to give it the same clean look. The boot is a pain to install and it takes up valuable trunk space (although coming from a Spyder the S trunk space would seem like a giant SUV).

I disagree. I traded in a sport package 2001 Miata for my 04 and although the Stook is an all around better car the Miata is a better handling one. Also, although I have never driven them I can think of at least 2 other cars under 100k I am confident outhandle an S easily: Caterham Super Seven & Lotus Elise.

The Stook's major weakness IMO: it's too heavy. However I for one won't give up the a\c and other creature comforts to save a few pounds, nor will I spend thousands to replace all the sheetmetal with c/f.

All that being said, I love my 04 and would buy it all over again.
