Interested in Aftermarket Gears
I've been deciding on next step modifications on the s2k and after my recent autocross, I think I want to go with 4.56 gears.
I've heard that it will totally change the attitude of the acceleration and responsiveness over stock 4.11 gearing.
How much have you guys been quoted at autoshops for an install?
How long does the install process normally take?
Where did you guys buy yours from?

Hard top guy has them, and he has an option for you to have him install them in another diff, and you send your diff back to him after you replace it. There is a core charge of course, but it is refunded.

I got mine from ricks and did the full core swap. It easily the best and safest way since you know they will be installed correctly in the housing.
Its pretty easy to install your self. Just need a wrench, jack + stands, and a ball joint popper.

Got mine from HTG. Full swap with speedo calibrator. I had the diff installed by a local shop and HTG pays the return shipping. One of the best mods out there and Jeff is a stand up guy.

bought them from rick`s and intalled them in our honda dealer. no speed calibrator installed! its not only the speed that is off, the odo meter is accelerating faster than actual milage!! but im fine with that lol im not selling my S

4.56 Gear (Rick's) + Yellow Box = $699.20 shipped from Science of Speed.
Install by Raceline (so cal) = $350
Motul Fluid for install = $FREE (someone gave me 2 bottles).
Yellow Jacked Install by Raceline = $40
Total = $1,089.20 installed (with free diff fluid).
After 1,000 miles, have to do another fluid change...
Fluid change by Raceline = $20 BYOF (bring your own fluid)
Total = $1,109.20 (with free diff fluid)
I drove for 1 week without the yellow box, and can tell you that it's VERY hard to tell how fast you're going when your speedo is off by 11%+!!
Gear Install time = 3-4 hours
(some of that is waiting for silicone to dry)
Yellow box install time = 30 minutes
(you can do this yourself, if you can find the info on where the wires are)
Good luck.
