Unfortunately the adage that insurance companies rule the world is true.

I'm almost certain you can get a better deal if your record is indeed squeaky clean. Go to Autotrader.com and follow the links get an online insurance quote. I was with Progressive a few years ago (I was ~21), driving a '94 Integra LS, and paying >$2,000/year. I invested 10 minutes of my time getting the quote, and cut almost $1000/year off my rates by going through Travelers. And I had the same coverage.

The catch is that AS SOON as your record is no longer squeaky clean, you will no longer be able to get the dirt-cheap rates, so be careful. If something does happen (accident, ticket, etc.), you can always go back, but just be ready for the to happen.

I'm with State Farm, which recently bumped the S2000 into a higher-risk category. In addition, an increased number of claims across my state (Maryland) has resulted in a widespread rise in rates.
That said, I only saw a $65 yearly increase, although in all fairness I should disclose that I'm 43, not 21.
Shop around and see if you can save some money.

Ahh the glory of being (well) past 25 AND married (somehow the ins. company seems to thing that makes me more responsible ) I was paying more than twice as much for my 88 Civic DX hatchback when I was close to your age (had an accident) than I do now for my S2k. Unfortunately just the nature of car insurance, I've hated it, complain about it etc.... but would never dream of going without it.

I'm 42, and likewise, my State Farm rates went up. About $65 /year as well. I pay around
$900/year full coverage wiith a $250 deductible on collision, $100 comprehensive.

I'm with a small NY carrier, NY Central Mutual, whose rates are typically far below any of the large carriers and my renewal just came due. My record is squeaky clean, I'm 38 and single. My rates just went up by about $300/year with no explanation. I was surprised when I first insured this car that it was less than my Prelude had been. I guess they've finally figured out how to class this car.

I'm 29 and married. I got GMAC Ins. and my premium went up only 20$ a year, and the car I drove before was '01 Toyota RAV4, I'm surprise!

You should try to get a different quote from other companies, see if you can qualify for a lower rate, but a 21 year old man, single, not yet a college graduated(I just guess), and a convertible car?, I doubt it.

Good luck though.

NYS just enacted some BS surcharge which the insure. comp. are passing right along. this happened about 6 months ago so depending on when your policy had to be renewed is when you will notice. Isn't it great to pay for something which you may never see used. Guess if I get into an accident my insurance policy should be the first thing on my mind not my health or those which are in the accident.

Try American Express Insurance through Costco. I'm paying $500 a year for my S.
