If you are only going to drive it on weekends primarily, then why not insure it as a recreational vehicle. There will be a limit to the number of miles a year you can put on it, but if you think you'll be under that limit then it should cost significantly less.

USAA FTW

excellent rates and service is unbeatable

I've heard many horror stories about geico not wanting to pay out for stuff.. you really need to keep in mind that going with an ultra cheap insurance company might bite you in the event of an accident...

i have a .. less than perfect record and pay 100/mo at age 25.

Mine's around $330 per 6 months fully covered on allstate. I think it's under my name too.

I'm 23. I have 22 or so tickets, but a perfect record.

I go to mad court dates, yo.

I'm in the bay area too so here is my take on your situation.

Try wawanesa like someone mentioned above, it is cheap. Even with the s2000 as my only car. I am 31 though. I pay $670 a year for 100/300/100. $500 deductible.

Also, if you have Costco, try Ameriprise. They were "cheaper", like $1600 a year for 100/300/100. $500 deductible.

Also, try to get a crappy vehicle as your "shield" like someone said above. Say that car is your primary and your s2000 is your weekend. But most insurances require this "shield" to be in your name.

All other insurances were very expensive for me...$2000 a year roughly. And I have a clean record. Tried Geico, State Farm, Farmers. I try to stay away from cheap insurance companies because even though they are cheap, they might not pay out to your satisfaction. And the s2000 is not a cheap car to fix nor would you want it fixed cheaply. So you get what you pay for. If you want cheap-o insurance, you might as well just get liability and save the extra for a rainy day. That's my opinion.

Yeah I agree with a lot of fly by night el cheapo companies putting the screws to ya when you make a claim.

I personally have never had a claim in the 14 years I have been licensed but I have friends who use Geico that have had claims with them and were paid quickly and too their satisfaction.

Personally I hope I never have to find out though.

That is cheap. Are you under a family policy or did you get your own insurance? Geico quoted me an extra $3,000/yr full coverage for the addition of the S2k.
Nope, I'm on my own. I had a 2004 G35 Coupe and that was $124/month with American Family Mutual, and I just went to Geico when I got the S2000. AFM was good to me as well.

Clean driving record (no tickets), and one comprehensive claim (hit and run on the G35 while it was parked). What is your driving record like? How about ducts? I have $500, if you go lower, than the monthly price can go up quite a bit.

Go onto their website and get a quote that way. They have additional stuff such as good student discounts, etc (when I signed on with both companies I got the good student discount which saved a bit, etc)
