Insurance a bit high?
I run two cars. Honda Odyssey and my newly aqcuired Hponda S2000, which I am happy to have. I'm just wondering why the cost for insurance is higher on thew S2k, anyone care to explain? Am I being ripped? Thanks

My 2004 runs me $180/month, full coverage (I'm a 19 y.o. female though) ...
I'm a 43 y.o. software developer and I just barely afforded an '02. How does a 19 y.o. female buy an '04 and pay $2160 a year in insurance.
As to the question at hand...
The S2000 costs me about $300 for six months insured as a pleasure vehicle (no back/forth to work/school). That's still more than the 2001 Miata that was insured as a commute vehicle (it was about $270 / six months).

Get this, I pay a little more insurance than I did with my 03 Cobra! I didnt expect this at all, but I'll live with it.
I figure I pay so much insurance because its a 2 seater, it is an all sports car.. "sports", and it has a rag-top. Pretty easy to break into without causing alot of noise or triggering alarms.

As someone else said, try telling them it's a weekend ride.

Pyro didn't mention what he/she is paying for ins. Take into account driving record, married or not, age, state of residence... etc. These all are factors that influence rates.
Hondas are sometimes higher due to the theft factors of certain models and also accident frequency of younger drivers... this per my insurance co. Civic SIs are higher partly 'cause of the kiddies.
You could raise your limits of liability (comp/collision) which offsets a few bucks.
@ 33 years of age I pay $950 for six months on my '04 S2K and my '00 Tacoma V6 4X4. Although my coverage is set at the highest limits for uninsured/underinsured motorists and property damage. There are a lot of morons on the road!!
